Logroño Launches Its Center of Excellence and Data Office: Towards a Smarter and More Sustainable City

Logroño takes a step forward in urban innovation with the opening of its Center of Excellence and Data Office (CEOD).

The opening ceremony, held this morning, brought together authorities and experts: Beatriz Arraiz, Government Delegate in La Rioja; Mayor Conrado Escobar; and Jaime Carnicero, Director General of Organization and Resources at FEMP, along with the CEOD technical team and representatives from local companies and universities such as JIG, Suma Info, Minsait, the University of La Rioja (UR), and UNIR.

The mayor focused on the impact of data on city life: “It will help us improve mobility, public transport, efficient irrigation, e-government, tourism, commerce, and social services. It will also allow us to better listen to residents and anticipate their needs”.

This project demonstrates how European funds reach cities and help transform them.

One of the most interesting moments was the roundtable moderated by Alfonso Pérez, Director General of Technology and Innovation. Participants included Javier Gurría (JIG), Juan Jesús Urbizu (Suma Info), José Luis Albo (Minsait), Eduardo Fonseca (UR), and Francisco Javier Flor (UNIR), who shared real cases of how data and urban intelligence improve municipal management and generate new economic opportunities. The conversation served to exchange best practices, challenges, and innovative solutions applicable to Logroño and other cities.

With this center, Logroño joins 12 pioneering cities in Spain leading digital transformation through the data economy: A Coruña, Alcoi, Badajoz, Fuenlabrada, Jaén, Jerez de la Frontera, Madrid, Málaga, Mataró, Santander, and Valencia. To date, 36 companies participate in the EDINT ecosystem, collaborating to create solutions based on data and centered on people.
