The data economy arrives in A Coruña with the inauguration of its Center of Excellence and Data Office
The A Coruña City Council has inaugurated its Center of Excellence and Data Office (CEOD), thus integrating into the national network of Data Spaces for Smart Urban Infrastructures (EDINT). This project, promoted by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, has the collaboration of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, through Red.es.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by institutional and technical representatives such as Inés Rey García, Mayor of A Coruña; Jaime Carnicero de la Cámara, General Director of Resources, Organization and Central Procurement of FEMP; Arturo Rodríguez González, Deputy Director of Smart Territories at Red.es; and Emilio Álvarez-Miranda, Director of Environment, European Funds and Digitalization of the City Council.
During the day, Silvia Santos, technical manager of the CEOD, presented the center’s main lines of work, focused on mobility, sustainability, and local competitiveness.
“We are facing something innovative, a leap of faith. We don’t have a mirror to look into, but we do have the conviction that the data economy is the basis of 21st-century urban development.”
The day included a debate panel with companies linked to the project, such as the Galician Institute of Technology (ITG), Aluvisa Traffic Systems, Altia Consultores, and EF Business School, moderated by Jorge Dacal López, CEOD facilitator, and Daniel Vega Díaz, from the FEMP’s Smart Territories Sub-directorate.
The meeting focused on data governance and public-private collaboration as key elements to promote smarter, more sustainable, and connected territories.
With the opening of this new center, A Coruña joins the twelve local entities that are part of the EDINT network, an initiative that transforms data into a strategic tool for sustainable urban development and public innovation.
