EDINT: data that transforms cities

Urban environments have become the main stage where the future is built—spaces where innovation, sustainability, and technology must go hand in hand to improve people’s quality of life.

With this vision, EDINT (Data Spaces for Smart Urban Infrastructures) was created—an initiative led by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, in collaboration with the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service, through Red.es.

The project aims to boost the data economy in urban settings, promoting cooperation between public administrations, companies, universities, and citizens.

Its mission: to turn data into useful knowledge to make better decisions, optimize resources, and move toward more sustainable, efficient, and people-centered cities.

Overview

12 local authorities are already part of the EDINT network

To make this possible, EDINT is structured through a network of Centers of Excellence and Data Offices (CEOD): local innovation spaces where shared urban data is analyzed to generate real solutions.

Through the CEODs, EDINT operates across three major impact areas:

  • Smart mobility, to achieve more sustainable transport and better urban planning.
  • Greener cities, through energy efficiency and responsible resource management.
  • Local competitiveness, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and jobs around data.

EDINT represents a collective commitment to building a more connected, open, and participatory city model, where information becomes progress and shared knowledge becomes a driver of development.

EDINT’s CEOD network is made up of the local authorities of A Coruña, Alcoi, Badajoz, Fuenlabrada, Jaén, Jerez de la Frontera, Logroño, Madrid, Málaga, Mataró, Santander, and Valencia.
