Valencia launches its Center of Excellence and Data Office (CEOD) and joins EDINT's national urban innovation network
The city of Valencia has inaugurated its Center of Excellence and Data Office (CEOD), a new urban innovation hub that is part of EDINT – Data Spaces for Smart Urban Infrastructures, the project led by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, in collaboration with the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function, through Red.es.
During the event, the Councillor for Innovation, Technology, Digital Agenda and Investment Attraction, Paula Llobet Vilarrasa, highlighted that “this new center is an opportunity to implement impactful technology that helps us improve people’s lives, through public-private collaboration and cooperation with universities.”
On behalf of FEMP, Cristina Montalvá Medina, General Director of Equality and Local Policies, and Marta Marián de Diego, Smart Territories Technician, spoke, emphasizing EDINT’s transformative dimension: “today, not only a center is being inaugurated, but a new way of working. Data is no longer a byproduct, but the engine of the new economy and the raw material for public innovation.”
The meeting also featured the participation of Daniel Nieto Sanchís, head of Valencia’s CEOD, who highlighted the center’s role as a “local innovation space and quality data training hub.” Additionally, representatives from Pavapark Movilidad, Libelium, and Nunsys Group shared their experiences in using data as a tool to improve public services, sustainability, and citizen trust.
Share Data, Grow Opportunities
Valencia’s CEOD is configured as an urban innovation laboratory to leverage the value of shared data and generate solutions in three main areas:
- Smart mobility: sustainable transport and efficient urban planning.
- Resource and public service management: improving energy and environmental efficiency.
- Local competitiveness: boosting business activity and creating skilled employment.
With this inauguration, Valencia joins the network of 12 pioneering local entities that make up EDINT, a project with a total investment of nearly 13 million euros and the participation of 36 companies collaborating to develop data-driven and people-oriented solutions.
